We are very pleased to announce that AMS 2022 will take place in Korea’s most beautiful resort island Jeju.
Our AMS 2022 is taking place at an important time as globally the development in the space industry is progressing at a bigger and faster pace than ever. The South Korean space program is a reflection of these rapid developments of space technology and industry. South Korea was a newly emerging space technology country that only began developing satellite technology in the 1990s, but today is looking to launch their very first indigenously developed rocket by 2022. South Korea is now investing into countries newly joining the space race alongside Asian space superpowers China, Japan, and India. Globally, we are entering the era of “NewSpace”; space is no longer just for basic science research and government-sponsored space exploration, but a site for manufacturing and economic activities of private industries. Many startups and larger companies are investing into these entrepreneurial opportunities.
We believe AMS 2022 will be a platform that reflects, champions and expands these changes in our approach to space. In addition to strengthening our focus on experimental sciences such as physics, chemistry, combustion, fluid dynamics, biology and medicine in microgravity environments, we will also expand our focus to new fields such as space manufacturing, space pharmaceutics, space business, and space medicine and astronaut training, which we hope will provide an enriching time of learning and sharing of perspectives. Lastly, we would like to invite astronauts and space scientists throughout Asia to provide public lectures to children, and to pass on and nurture the awe and wonder of space to Asia’s next generation.
Jeju is a UNESCO-designated world heritage site and a world-renown tourist destination. You will experience the natural beauty of Jeju and the warm welcoming spirit of Koreans, with convenient accommodations and transportation. We hope that every scientist, engineer, entrepreneur, and student taking part in AMS 2022 will not only learn the latest research, but also take time to enjoy what Jeju has to offer.
We hope that during AMS 2022 all universities, institutes, businesses, and governmental organizations that take part will grow together in cooperative development of microgravity research and space utilization technology.
Sincerely,
